How the water damage services connect

Nearly every job starts with stopping the source and extracting standing water. Structural drying follows, with dehumidifiers and air movers pulling moisture out of walls, floors and framing until readings return to normal. Depending on the source, cleanup may add cleaning and disinfection for sewage or floodwater, or pumping and drying for a storm cellar or crawlspace. Repairs come after the structure is dry.

Which services you need depends on where the water came from, how long it sat and what it reached. When you call, describe the source and the affected rooms, and the contractor can explain which steps apply.

Questions

Questions to ask about any service

For any of these services, ask how the contractor measures moisture, how they decide what to remove, how often they will take readings, and how they document the work for your insurer. Ask whether they coordinate with plumbers and roofers for the source, and whether permits from Oklahoma City Development Services will be needed for repairs. Clear answers tell you a lot about how the job will run.

If the water came from outside or from a drain, say so early; contaminated water changes what can be kept.
